It might feel at the moment you didn’t get all you wanted to do in 2020 done. This doesn’t mean that you can’t catch up in 2021. The Hometown Tourist Notebook for 2021 can help you get caught up in 2021.
There are lots of places that you can find ideas for your Hometown Tourist Lists for 2021. I’ve started by reviewing my 2020 Hometown Tourist Notebook, my 2020 wishlist, bucket list and anywhere else that I noted down what I wanted to do in 2020. When writing your 2021 list it is the perfect time to revisit your old lists and see if there is anything your still want to do.
As and when things re-open in 2021 it will be more important that ever so support local businesses. So you can start by list all your favourite places in your notebook under the various lists such as shops, restaurants, coffee shops, museums etc. Sometimes it is about revisiting the classics and your old favourites, not just the new places.
The list prompts in your Hometown Tourist Notebook can be used as inspiration for researching things to do either now, or in the future when life goes back to “normal” (whenever and whatever that may be).
I like to have my Hometown Tourist Notebook on my desk so that I can add ideas to it when inspiration strikes.
For me there tends to be three main sources of inspiration:
Social media and Websites
You never know what might pop up on social media, in your inbox etc. I have found that social media accounts and websites of places I would usually visit have been offering online and alternative activities that you can do from home, continue to advertise interesting things to do and upcoming events etc. Any that jump out at me go straight into my notebook. I know realistically I don’t have time to do everything but if I don’t add it, I’m not likely to consider doing it at all.
I also keep an eye out for new places opening up as I am keen to also support new and local businesses while times continue to be challenging.
Mailing Lists and Existing Knowledge
For other lists such as pubs to visit etc., I’ve been writing lists of place I want to visit when they reopen (and independent businesses that I want to support).
Some of these lists feature places that I am missing and classic favourites, others feature places that I have never visited before but want to try. I subscribe to a number of mailing lists for my favourite local businesses and restaurants – this is a great way to keep up to day with what they are doing at the moment, particularly if you don’t have a lot of time to just browse social media.
Recommendations of others
Finally lookout for any recommendation from colleagues, friends and family and your wider network. As interacts continue to be virtual I have found that people are keen to share tips and recommendations particular those that they think will lift others up. So I am keeping a list of these as well.
